Variants: no duplicate SKUs, Generate keeps your work, and "from product" means the same everywhere

v4.0.280 – 4.0.338NewImprovedFixed

A round of variant fixes, several of which stop a problem before it reaches a channel.

No more duplicate variant SKUs

Two option values with the same name — XXL twice in a Size list, say — used to generate two variants with the same SKU, and one quietly replaced the other. The same happened when two values produced the same SKU ending, such as "Charcoal Grey" and "Charcoal Black" both becoming CHARCO.

Fulify now refuses both when you save the option value, and names the value it clashes with. Names are compared ignoring case and extra spaces. Settings → Variant Options marks any duplicates you already have.

What to do: if you see a duplicate badge, rename one of the values.

Choose the SKU separator

Settings → Variant Options now has a Separator setting for variant SKUs: a hyphen (TEE-RED-S) or a tilde (TEE~RED~S).

Generate keeps what you've done

Generate used to rebuild every variant, wiping prices, weights and barcodes and rewriting SKUs. It now keeps your existing variants exactly as they are and adds only the combinations that are new.

"From product" is true on every channel

A blank variant field takes its value from the product. The variant editor used to describe that three different ways, and it wasn't always true:

  • A blank field now shows the value it will actually get, marked from product. Where a field is too narrow, hover for the full hint.
  • Cost and retail price now come from the product on Shopify, as they already did on BigCommerce and Linnworks. Sale price deliberately doesn't.
  • A variant with a blank price no longer reaches Shopify at 0.00. It gets the product's base price.

Channel tabs and variants

  • Channel tabs now appear from the first channel a product is on.
  • The Channel Sync card lists only the channels this product is on.
  • A channel's variant settings sit in the Options & Variants section, where you'd look for them.
  • The editor no longer asks you to discard changes straight after you've saved variants.
  • The toggle on each variant row says Show or Hide, rather than a bare arrow.

New Shopify products keep their first variant

Creating a new product with variants on Shopify could lose its first variant, and later updates to that product would then fail. Fulify now checks the product's live variants on Shopify before each sync and matches them by SKU, then by option values.

What to do: sync any affected product once. It repairs itself on that sync.
