Customs and compliance
The Customs & Compliance section holds the data you need for cross-border shipping and US product-safety compliance. Filling it in properly also matters for syncing: Shopify, for example, only accepts an HS code and country of origin in the right format.
Where to find it
Open a product and go to Customs & Compliance in the section nav. The section opens once the product has been saved for the first time.
This section saves itself a moment after you stop typing and shows Saved when done, so you don't need to click Save for these fields.
Customs
- HS / Harmonized Code: the international tariff classification code used at customs. It must be 6 to 13 digits to sync to Shopify, and Fulify warns you if it isn't.
- Customs Description.
- Manufacture Date (MM/YYYY).
- Last Test Date (MM/DD/YYYY).
US Safety Compliance (CPSC)
Choose a Compliance Template to apply manufacturer, contact, lab and certificate details that are shared across many products, such as everything from one brand. When you select a template, a read-only preview shows its:
- Certificate Type
- Country of Origin
- CPSC-Accepted Lab and CPSC Lab ID
- CFR Citation
- Manufacturer
- Point of Contact Type and Point of Contact Details
Click Manage templates to create or edit templates in Settings → Customs & Compliance Templates. To assign a template to many products at once, select them on the Products list and use More, then Customs template.
Related fields elsewhere in the editor
These fields live in the Inventory & Stock section:
- Country of Origin: a 2-letter ISO code such as GB, needed for Shopify. It overrides the compliance template's country.
- Tax Code and Tax Category. See Tax settings.
How values are inherited
Values flow down a chain: compliance template, then product, then variant.
- The product uses its compliance template's values unless you set its own, as with Country of Origin.
- A variant field left empty uses the product's value. The variant shows the inherited value in grey, marked "from product", so you can see exactly what will apply.
Set a value once at the template or product level and every variant picks it up. Only fill in a variant's HS Code, Country of Origin or Tax Code where that variant differs.
Export a CPSC registry file
To produce the US CPSC registry CSV, go to Settings → Customs & Compliance Templates and click Export CPSC CSV. It includes one row for every product with a compliance template assigned, using the template's details plus each product's SKU, name and dates.
